So, you’ve accepted our invitation, but how to get to Malcesine? There are a number of options for getting to Lake Garda. As the vast majority of guests will be travelling from the north of England we have based most of our flight information on this region.
Flights
The nearest airport to Malcesine is Verona Villafranca, around an hour and a quarter by car, while Milan Bergamo is the furthest at around 2 hours by car. From Manchester these are the airline options:
Verona Villafranca (VRN) with Monarch
Milan Bergamo (BGO) with Ryanair
Venice Marco Polo (VCE) with Easyjet
You can also fly from Leeds to Verona Villafranca or Venice Marco Polo with Jet2.
Car Hire
Car hire is a great option if there are a few of you arriving on the same flight and may work out cheaper than a minivan transfer especially if you are flying to Milan Bergamo. Car hire companies we’ve used before in Italy are:
Hertz: https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/reservation/
Europcar: https://www.europcar.co.uk/
However, there are usually always several other companies at each airport.
Airport Transfers
There are no trains to Malcesine; it would be a train and bus journey if you want to use public transport. The trains are pretty good and easy to use (from our limited experience in Venice). It is worth checking with your hotel if they can organise transfers for you as many can do this. Here are some companies if you wish to organise your own transfer. You would probably need to book in advance for this. Just a note; sometimes the search function on the Europlan website doesn’t work properly, but if you email with your enquiry they do reply with prices.
